Kalamazoo's Paramount Charter Academy elementary and middle school endorses the following student dress code:
2009-2010 Dress Code
Personal Hygiene
The personal grooming of students should be in accord with the standards set by the uniform dress code. Students should be clean and neat when at school.
All Students
• Shirts must be solid-colored, must have a flip-over collar, and must be short- or long-sleeved (includes polo shirts, mock turtlenecks, button-down shirts, and blouses). T-shirts and pajama tops are not permitted.
• Shirts must be tucked into bottoms at all times and must be long enough to stay tucked in while the student is sitting or raising his/her hand. Tops and blouses must not be provocative.
• Sweaters or sweatshirts may only be worn over an acceptable dress code shirt; they may not replace the uniform shirt. Sweaters and sweatshirts must be solid-colored and may not contain any logos larger than a business card. Students may not wear sweater or sweatshirt hoods on their heads while they are in the building.
• Pants must be solid-colored. Jeans are accepted, but must be of an acceptable style. Solid-colored, moderate flare pants and capri pants are acceptable. Examples of unacceptable pants are the following: cargo pants, nylon (wind suit) pants, zip off pants, sweat pants, pajama bottoms, and baggy pants. Pants should be free of holes and logos. Only students in kindergarten and first grade may wear sweatpants.
• Shorts, skirts, skorts, jumpers, and dresses must be solid-colored. These items may be no shorter than three inches above the knees. Girls are advised to wear modest shorts under skirts, jumpers, and dresses to maintain their modesty while playing on the playground.
• Shoes must be clean and in good repair. They may not have distracting brand names, lights, music, etc. Platform shoes, slippers, and flip-flops are not permitted. Sandals must have ankle straps. Heels over one inch are not permitted.
• Boots may be worn as outdoor footwear only.
• Socks must be worn when appropriate and must be solid-colored. Tights must be solid-colored.
• Hats, hoods, and headgear may be worn as outdoor attire only. Bandanas and wave caps are not permitted at any time.
• A modest number of earrings, finger rings, and simple necklaces are permitted. Body jewelry is not permitted. Chains that are attached to clothing or wallets are not permitted.
• Clips that are designed to be worn in one’s hair must stay in his/her hair at all times.
• Hair must be tied back upon request when necessary for safety. Cut, tinted, or dyed hair must not be distracting and must be consistent with the intent of the dress code.
• Students may not bring makeup to school.
2010-2011 Dress Code
Shirts and Blouses:
• Must be one solid color-Choices: navy blue, powder blue, cherry red, black
• Must have a flip-over collar and sleeves (long or short).
• Examples of acceptable styles include: polos, turtlenecks, mock turtlenecks, and button-downs.
• Must be tucked in at all times and long enough to stay tucked in when seated or when hands are raised high above the head.
• Pajama tops are not acceptable.
Sweaters and Sweatshirts:
• Must be one solid color-Choices: navy blue, powder blue, cherry red, black
• Sweaters and sweatshirts may not have hoods.
• Garment logos, if any, must be no larger than a standard business card.
• May be worn over an acceptable dress code shirt (must be dress code color) and may not replace the shirt.
Pants and Slacks:
• Must be one solid color-Choices: khaki, navy blue, black
• Logos may be no larger than a standard business card.
• Jeans and cargo pants are not permitted.
• Solid color moderate flares and capris are acceptable.
• Examples of pants not in dress code include: nylon (wind suit), pajama bottoms, or excessively baggy pants. (Kindergarteners and first-graders may wear sweatpants in the appropriate dress code color.)

Playground equipment is above ground level; therefore young ladies should wear some type of modest shorts under all skirts, jumpers, and dresses (must be dress code color).

• Must be clean, in good repair, and without distracting brand names, lights, music, etc.
• No platform shoes.
• No slippers or flip-flops.
• Heelies, or other roller footwear, are not allowed.
• Rain/snow boots are considered outdoor wear only.
• Sandals must have an ankle strap.
• Socks must be worn when appropriate and must be one solid color (must be white or dress code color).
• Tights must be one solid color (must be white or dress code color).
Hats and Headgear:
• Worn only as outdoor attire.
• No bandanas or wave caps.
Jewelry and Accessories:
• Jewelry other than a modest number of earrings (studs only), finger rings, and simple necklaces shall not be worn. Body jewelry will not be permitted.
• Clips that are designed to be worn in the student's hair shall stay in the student's hair at all times.
• Chains that are attached to a student's clothing or from their wallet are not to be worn at school.
Makeup:
• Students are not to bring make-up to school.
• Students are not to bring spray perfume, spray cologne, or spray deodorant to school.
Hair and Hair Colors:
Hair must be tied back on request when necessary for safety. Cut, tinted or dyed hair must be non-distracting and consistent with the intent of the dress code.
Personal Hygiene:
A student who comes to school without proper attention having been given to personal cleanliness or neatness of dress shall be sent home to be properly prepared for school or shall be required to prepare himself/herself for the school classroom before entering.
